News from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the final week of term 3. As this newsletter goes to print parents should be receiving their children's term 3 progress report card. A reminder to all families that the term 3 report, especially for our junior students, shows the effort, behaviour and academic achievement for term 3 by itself, and for seniors this may include a cumulative result for academic achievement. This is so our seniors have an accurate indication of where they're sitting before they enter into their final weeks of school and external block exams. With saying that I wish all of our year twelves a relaxing last spring holiday before exams start and they enter the real world of adulthood! I am so proud of all students and their academic achievement this year as early investigations into the data this term show 90% of our students achieving a C or better!
I'd like to thank all staff, families and students for their support this term as it has been full of lots of academic achievement, sporting prowess and extracurricular activities. I want to wish all families the best for their spring holiday as I'm sure many parents, much like myself, are looking forward to not having to do the school run, make school lunches or keep up with the extracurricular activities. We look forward to welcoming all students back to school at the beginning of term 4 on Tuesday the 7th of October.
Yours in learning,
Natasha Lyndon

News from the Arts Department
Two Talented Malanda SHS Visual Arts Students Selected for Prestigious FNQ Exhibition: Energy in the Tanks
We are proud to announce that two outstanding Visual Arts students from our school, Codie Durich and Lauren Dickson, have been selected to exhibit their work in the prestigious Energy exhibition, opening at the Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns on Thursday, 19th September.
What is Energy?
Energy is an annual exhibition presented by the Tanks Arts Centre in partnership with the Queensland Department of Education. It showcases the best work from senior secondary Visual Arts students (Years 11 and 12) across Far North Queensland. The exhibition celebrates the creative energy, technical skill, and bold ideas of young artists, offering them a platform to display their work in a professional gallery setting.
Codie and Lauren were selected for their striking lino print political posters, artworks that combine strong visual impact with timely and thought-provoking messages. Their work demonstrates not only outstanding printmaking skills but also a deep engagement with contemporary social and political issues—qualities that embody the spirit of Energy.
Being selected for Energy is a significant achievement and a mark of excellence in the arts. We are incredibly proud of Codie and Lauren for their hard work, creative courage, and dedication.
The artwork will be on public display from opening night 19th September to the 5th September.

Drive2Live – Safe Driver Program
Our Year 12 students recently participated in the Drive2Live – Safe Driver Program, which equips new drivers with vital early education on the complexities of driving a motor vehicle on our roads.
This powerful program goes beyond just getting from A to B – it builds awareness, confidence, and responsibility, ensuring our young people are better prepared to make safe choices behind the wheel.
We are proud of our seniors for engaging with this important learning opportunity and taking steps towards becoming safer drivers for themselves and our community.

Thank you!!
